Why This Initiative Was Created

Responding to Safety Concerns in Tulsa Parks

Following multiple violent incidents and increased safety concerns in Tulsa parks and public spaces, Empire Arising launched Pathway to Safety as a free community safety and prevention initiative.

The event brought together psychology-based safety education, community resources, and practical prevention strategies. Participants learned about criminal behavior and vulnerability, situational awareness, recognizing and reporting suspicious activity, and ways to reduce risk and build confidence in public spaces.

The Tulsa Police Department participated in the event to share public-safety and reporting information and connect directly with community members. Free self-defense instruction was also made available to youth and adults, providing participants with practical skills alongside the prevention-focused education.

Pathway to Safety was designed not only to respond to community concerns, but to help residents feel more informed, prepared, connected, and confident using Tulsa’s parks and public spaces.
